Buttocks augmentation surgery is performed to round out the buttocks and increase their size.  The procedure involves grafting fat from another part of the patient’s body to the buttocks or inserting an elastomer implant.  Generally taking between 2 and 3 hours, the buttocks augmentation surgery typically requires that the patient receive general anesthesia.

With the patient lying face down on the operating table, the surgeon makes incisions in the crease between the buttock and the upper leg (near the anus), creating a pocket.  The doctor then inserts the fat tissue or the implant and shapes it to fit the patient’s buttocks.  Once the procedure is complete, the surgeon sutures the incision shut.  The surgical scars typically become barely visible after approximately one year.

The results of buttocks augmentation surgery are permanent; however, the implants may shift and cause the buttocks to look different from each other.  Correcting this usually requires additional surgery.  Buttocks augmentation surgery is an outpatient procedure, and patients can usually return home after the anesthesia wears off.  Patients usually require approximately two weeks before they can resume work and regular activity.  For the duration of those two weeks, patients may experience great pain while lying down.  They should avoid sitting on the buttocks until the area has stopped swelling and bruising.
